October 31 Happy HalloweenWell, here it is folks, another Halloween is upon us. It's partly cloudy outside but no rain. Kinda adds to the spooky vibe of the day. I'm in green and black (semi witchy) but I didn't paint my face today. My troopers have been raiding my candy filled pumpkin all day! I'm such a good secretary. LMAO!!!! After today, for me, it's Christmas all the way. I like Thanksgiving but I'm a huge sucker for Christmas.
I'm sitting here remembering so many good times I had with my friends when we would go trick or treating as youngsters. I just LOVED getting to dress up in some goober costume and get candy. I think I just liked being with my friends. It was a time when I was able to just "hang out" and enjoy the "spookier" qualities of the holiday. I remember when it used to be cool to be scared and now it's...well...not so cool. Guess that's why I like doing my paranormal investigations. I have never been really scared of anything so the investigating is actually very fun for me.
Have a great Halloween!!!! Take care! October 30 All Hallow's EveI can't believe Halloween is tomorrow. I don't have much planned except to watch Most Haunted Live, and other "spooky, creepy" movies. I remember when I was in college. I couldn't wait to have my own apartment where I could give out candy to the trick or treaters. The first year I had my own apartment, I was so ready to give out Halloween candy, but that year Halloween was on a Sunday and people decided to take their kids out on Saturday which happened to be the day I worked 6pm-midnight. There have been a few years that I've been able to give out candy and one year I didn't know how many kids would be coming around so I got only 3 bags of candy and ended up running out in just a few hours. I've found that in my small area, there are very few if any trick or treaters. The last few years I LOADED up on candy only to have 1 or 2 kids. Now, I'm just not going to give any out. There have been too many times that certain types of people don't even dress up or else they'll wear regular clothes and a cheap mask or face paint and go around BEGGING! If you're over 12 years old, you have no business trick or treating! That's when it just becomes BEGGING. My old roommate decided to get back at these nasty beggers. She got a friend of ours to climb on our roof and hose down these beggers with the water hose. That was the best Halloween ever except for the time I dressed up as a zombie. That year, I would open the door and just stand to the side of the door within view. These teenage jerks thought they were so smart and figured I was fake. I know for sure that 3 of them literally crapped their pants when I let out an ear-piercing shriek and took off after them. Have a safe and happy Halloween!!! Take care! October 27 Time After TimeI was driving home yesterday and it was just beautiful outside. The south in the Fall is just incredible! As I rolled down the 2 lane road, I could see the most beautiful, vibrant colors of the leaves on the trees. With the window down, I could smell burning wood coming from the chimneys of the old mill style and farmhouses dotting the road. The scent was captivating as it reminded me of my own childhood. The smell of the earthy leaves on the damp earth urged me back to a time when I was a child, fond of raking leaves and jumping into the pile just to hear the crunching sounds. The sky was dotted with a few clouds and the temperature was nearly perfect at a cool 65 degrees. Ahhh, it's times like this that are my favorite. Football games, Halloween and Thanksgiving, and the cool weather are reminders of why I love this time of year. This is the season that should be a reminder to us all that there really is a circle of life. The end of Summer and hot weather fades into the fancy colors and coolness of Fall. As the season changes into Winter, I'm able to enjoy the lights, colors, sounds and "white" as the holiday season takes precidence. I just love this time of year. I hope you do too! Take care!!!!! October 23 Local NewsI edited my blog so as not to anger some of you who read my blog. I had to vent and felt the need to do it here. If you were offended, I apologize. Java and Books
This weekend has turned cold and my poor plants need to come in for the season. I drained to pool (sniff sniff) yesterday, and hubby has almost finished with the porch. Just little odds and ends need to be finished. Our new TV is awesome!!! It's a Phillips flat screen with built in surround sound. Imagine what it will be like when hubby puts the rest of the surround sound speakers on it!!! It will blow me away!!!!! I made reservations for hubby and I to go to Savannah for Ghostock 4 in February. Ahhh, a vacation and fun with friends and spectors alike! I've been rushing the season again as I started getting our Christmas stuff out. Not really PUT OUT, but cleaned up and ready for the season. I'm adding 2 big pieces to my Christmas Village this year. I have a new skating pond with skaters and a police station. Each time I get a new piece, I think of my mom and how much she adores her village. It's during the holidays when I really see how much I'm like my mom. I feel so lucky to say such a thing.
Take care and let me hear your ghost stories!!!!!! :) October 20 Halloween/paranormal experiencesI can't believe it's almost Halloween! It seems that as soon as Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is on top of us and Christmas is soon to follow. Where has this year gone? I guess it seems to me that the year just began, but with all the trials and tribulations I've been through this summer, I can see where the time went. Since Halloween is almost here, I want to try and discuss some creepy events that we've experienced.
I've had things happen to me that I can't explain, but let me tell you about the best two. At both times, I was not aware that anything was even happening but here are the experiences. When I was in college, I lived in a dorm that was reportedly haunted. I lived in a single occupancy room which was a little bigger than a shoebox. I mean, it was SMALL!!! In the room, I had a twin bed, dresser, chair, desk and some crates that I made into shelves. To make more room, I'd put the desk on top of the dresser. It looked rather good if you ask me. Anyway, on top of the desk that was on my dresser, I had put some potted plants i.e. Ivy, Pathos, and a fern. I had also put an old Dominos Pizza cup up there behind the plants as it held pencils, and other junk that I just kept for the heck of it. My bed was approximately 4-5 feet from the dresser/desk. The height of the desk was about 8 feet tall. I'm 5'4 and couldn't reach the outermost edge of the desk unless I stood on a chair that weighed about 30 pounds and it took 2 people to move it(slide it). So there's the scene of how things were. Now, one night I had gone to bed early. When I woke up the next morning, the old Dominos cup that was in the back of all the plants that were 8 feet+ in the air, was sitting on a crate next to my bed. Now, my bed was on the opposite wall and NOTHING had been moved but that cup. How it got there, I'll never know but now I wish I would have been a light sleeper so I could have awoken to see that cup move in the air by unseen hands. It was really hard for me to comprehend that one.
The second event was about 3 years ago when I went on my first ghost hunt. It was myself and 2 other girls and 2 guys. One guy was outside, the 2 girls and other guy were in another part of the building and I had walked back inside the building, picked up my little tape recorder and went to join the others. Listening to the tape the following day, I heard a distinct but whispered "Hi" at the time when I had just walked back into the building. I've had others analyze this recording which is called an EVP and they have confirmed that this sound was not in the "human" range and is indeed a "spirit/ghost". I still have the tape and when I'm able to put it on this site, I will gladly do it for all to hear.
Have you had any experiences? If so, what were they? Take care!!!! October 19 little points of interestEverything is going fairly well these days. Preparing for Halloween has been fun and relaxing. Grumpy-Butt hasn't been here the last few days. As he doesn't know I blog and I've never revealed anything telling about myself he wouldn't know me anyway. Now that there are over 300 million in the U.S. alone now, it could be anybody. LOL Talk about trying to find a needle in a haystack!
We have a new cat at work. He's white with a little bit of creamy tan on his ears and tail. He's fairly wild, but I got to pet him a few times today and he comes to me. I haven't been feeding him but one of the other guys here has. If I can get this cat to trust me and let me pick him up (eventually) I'd like to take him to the vet and get him shots and neutered. He's got the makings of a loving cat, but he's just not too trusting right now. The cat reminds me of Doc Blood's cat. Doc Blood is another blog I read and he says it's just him and the cats. Doc, I think I've found another cat for ya! LOL
I'm in the process of convincing hubby to go to Ghostock 4 in February. I'm really anxious to just stay where the convention is this time instead of having to drive 20 miles from the island to inland. Hubby needs to decide soon as I want to go on some hunts again this time. He had a good time last year so maybe it won't be as difficult. If you're interested in what Ghostock is, go to www.ghosthounds.com and check it out. Since the inception last year, the convention has just blossomed and I think they were up to 200 attendants last month.
Okay, I've rambled enough but I want to leave you with this question. When you were kids what did you dress up as for Halloween? I usually went as tame things i.e. cheerleader, gypsy, pirate, etc. but lately I've been a witch (3-4 times), zombie, Uncle Fester. LOL What were you? Take care!!!! October 16 People are PeopleHowdy! Sunday was one of those curl up in bed days. We fixed some chicken and dumplings and chilled out. We are down to two puppies now. 3 of Abbey's were too small and didn't make it. One of our rabbits decided he'd lived long enough and died over the weekend. At this point, I'm so used to death.
Ever know someone who just gets a bug in their butt and turns crabby on everyone? Oh, I have one for you today. This guy came to work in a bad mood and decided to hit me first with the negativity. My car was parked in back in its USUAL spot when this guy came in and make a big deal that I needed to move my car. I've been here a month and no one has ever said anything about it. I even asked the Post Commander on my first day and he said to just park anywhere in back. Well, now this guy thinks we have "assigned" parking spaces and told me I needed to move my car. It pissed me off just enough that I moved my car around to the front and I'll be parking there from now on. If the Post Commander asks me about it, I'll tell him why. See, I'm not vendictive outwardly, but I will burn your ass when you aren't looking. You know if I tell the Post Commander what happened, someone's going to get a lecture and it sure as hell ain't me!!! I hate petty people. I almost told this guy to grow up and get a life.
This isn't to say that I'm angry about my job, just the opposite. Actually, I'm glad this happened. This guy isn't nice to the other people who work here and now I feel like "one of the guys". LMAO See, my new attitude is working really well. 2 more weeks until Halloween!!!! I love it, but it's going to be lame this year. Our town isn't having Spookytown anymore (the annual festival) and we never get trick or treaters in the country anyway. Oh well, give me a good movie anyday! Take care!!!! October 14 Lights and sirensI'm actually writing this from the EMS office. We have had about 4 calls today, but nothing too major. Our first call was right after we walked in the door. One of the "regulars" decided she wanted to go to the hospital because she was "sick". This is one of the ones I used to have to dispatch an ambulance to. She used to call about 3-4 times a week for the ambulance to come check her blood pressure. Waa waa waa. LOL The next call was actually for an elderly lady who had fallen and had a possible fractured wrist. It turned out that she was the grandmother of a former sheriff's deputy that I knew. I remember him as being a total butthead and arrogant to boot. LOL His granny was the sweetest lady and is 92 years old! She was a doll during transport and (bless her) had fractured her wrist in 2 places. I felt so awful for her. The other crew had a broken clavicle call and a cardiac transport back to back. This has been a fairly calm shift and I've learned a lot. It's hard to get back into the mode of driving an ambulance again but I did really well. I just wish people would learn to move over to the right when they see lights and hear the sirens coming up behind them. Scared me to death when some people decided to stay where they were. Hubby has been on the truck with me (yes, the husband and wife team) and he said "Don't be scared to put them in the ditch". I'm just too mellow to do something like that and I'm afraid of lawyers. LOL So far, things are fine and this is such a huge change from just sitting behind a desk. I like doing this on occasion, but I don't think I can do it every day or even every third day. I may try to pick up a few more days though just to brush up on skills and to have some little thrills. The money is fine, but that's not a motivator. I just like the thrill of the rush. LOL Hope you have a safe and relaxing weekend. Take care!!!!! October 13 Friday the 13th is strange! Most of you know that I LOVE fall and winter. Well, it's that time again! Caroldee has made mention that it was spitting snow at her home yesterday. I'm so Green with envy now! I read that Buffalo, NY got some snow today and lots of people are without power. I would NOT like to be without power but I would love to be snowed in somewhere. At I sit and look out my office window, it's cool and about 70 degrees. I raised the blinds and opened the window to be able to enjoy it. Usually the blinds here are closed because they don't work and the sun is TOO bright! I'm loving the fact that it's Friday and the weekend is here. I love my Friday night shows, but I'm worried about going to work EMS tomorrow.
Remember the Aerosmith song, "Dude looks like a lady"? Well, I've now seen a woman who looked just like a dude! Nearly stopped my heart in shock. After the person left, I just shook my head and laughed. Takes all kinds, I guess. She/ he wasn't even pleasant looking. Ewwwwww! People these days just like to look strange. LOL
Have a super weekend and take care!!! October 12 Wha' Happen' ?I remember seeing a comedian who used to have the tag line, "Wha' happen'?" That line used to crack me up all the time. I guess my question is, Wha' happen' to all of my blogging buddies? The weather is getting colder outside and I'm starting to get back into my blog walking and blogging routine. I hardly hear from anyone anymore and I'm wondering if I was abandoned. I do have some good friends (Mark & Julie) who read my blog to check up on me. Hi there!
We had 3 litters of puppies born in the last week and of the 10 born, 5 have survived. Weenie and Rose decided to be TERRIBLE mothers this time around. Abbey continues to be the apple of my eye and she can do no wrong. Essentially, she IS my baby. Her 5 pups are doing super and seem to be growing. I hope things continue. On a sadder note, our turkey that I named "Dinner" years ago, decided to go join the birds in the heavens. She was 3 almost 4 years old and had gotten to be 40+ pounds. All that weight on 2 stubby legs was too much for her. She was pitiful, bow-legged and pigeon toed but still a sweet turkey. I will miss her even thought I joked about serving her for Thanksgiving.
I'm looking forward to Halloween and the cool fall weather sticking around. I'm working 12 hours for EMS Saturday so I'll have to watch football all day.
Drop me a note or a comment and let me know you've been by. Take care!! October 06 Ahh, the fun of OctoberThank you so much for the well wishes and positive vibes! I'm just loving it here and the people are great. It's amazing how the personality changes at every Post. This post isn't keen on the brotherhood or get-togethers but that's about to change. I've been put in charge of doing the Christmas party this year. I heard how bad it was last year so I'm working to make this one a more exciting one.
This is a big football weekend at our house but to me that means that hubby will be out of my hair for a few hours. I'm looking forward to a 3 day weekend if only for the time for me to get some sleep back. Since I started working here, I don't hit the snooze anymore and I'm usually late getting to sleep so I've missed some serious pillow time. LOL
I'm also really looking forward to Halloween as it's one of my favorite holidays. If I could, I would decorate the whole house and yard and do it up really big, but as it is that my small town doesn't really trick or treat, what's the use? I'm planning on heading over for a ghost tour the 20th along with the GhostHounds. I love my Hounds year round but it just seems more exciting during October. By the way, the bi-annual Ghostock convention was last weekend but we couldn't make it. The next one it the first weekend in February so if you want to check it out then head over to the GhostHounds website and check it out. Also, I've just found out that the GhostHounds founder will be in Season 2 of Haunting Evidence on Court TV. Patrick Burns and the crew head out October 30th to begin shooting the 2nd season. According to Patrick, the next season will begin airing in June 2007. Have a great weekend!!!! Take care.... |
